Buyer's Guide: Low Kick Point

The "Kick Point" is the part of the shaft that bends the most when you shoot. It determines how the stick performs.

1. What is Low Kick?

A Low Kick stick flexes at the bottom of the shaft (near the blade).
Benefit: Speed. The stick loads and releases instantly.
Best For: Forwards who take quick snapshots, wrist shots in tight areas, and want to beat the goalie before they can set their feet.

2. Who uses Low Kick?

Players who prioritize a Quick Release over raw power. Think of players like Patrick Kane or Auston Matthews. If you shoot mostly while moving or off the rush, this is your stick.

3. Popular Low Kick Families

  • Bauer: Vapor Series (Hyperlite, etc.)
  • CCM: Ribcor Series (Trigger)
  • Warrior: Covert Series (QR5, QRE)
Flex Tip: Because Low Kick sticks are designed for quick snaps, many players choose a slightly lower flex (whippier) than usual to help maximize that "pop" on the release.

Common Questions

Is Low Kick good for slapshots?
It's okay, but not ideal. Because the flex point is so low, you don't get the same "slingshot" leverage you get from a Mid Kick stick. If you take big wind-ups from the blue line, you might prefer a Mid Kick (High Kick) stick.
Do I need to cut it?
Most players cut their sticks to chin height (on skates). Note: Cutting a stick makes it stiffer. If you cut 2 inches off, you increase the stiffness by about 5-8 flex points.
