Buyer's Guide: Travel Ball Standards

USSSA bats are designed to be "Hot." They have thinner walls and higher trampoline effects than Little League (USA) bats.

1. The 1.15 BPF Stamp

If you play Travel Ball, USSSA, or select tournaments (Perfect Game, Cooperstown), you need the 1.15 BPF (Bat Performance Factor) stamp. These bats generate significantly higher exit velocities.

2. Drop Weight Guide

  • Drop -12 to -10: For ages 7-10. Focus on bat speed.
  • Drop -8: The "Transition" bat. Essential for ages 11-12 to build strength.
  • Drop -5: The "Pre-High School" bat. Mandatory for 13U in many tournaments to prepare for BBCOR (-3).
Warning: You generally CANNOT use these bats in Little League or Cal Ripken play. They hit the ball too hard for those field dimensions. Always check your league rules.

Common Questions

Is this better than a USA Bat?
In terms of performance? Yes. A USSSA bat will hit the ball further and harder than a USA bat of the same size. If your league allows USSSA, you should always swing USSSA.
Does the Hype Fire really pop?
Modern composites (like the Easton Hype Fire or Marucci CatX) use advanced layering to maximize the trampoline effect. They are widely considered the hottest bats ever made.
