Buyer's Guide: Choosing Your Stick
Finding the right stick is about three variables: Flex, Kick Point, and Curve. Here is how to pick.
1. Flex (Stiffness)
A general rule of thumb is to pick a flex that is half your body weight. If you weigh 150 lbs, try a 75 or 77 flex.
- Youth (20-40 Flex): Ages 4-8
- Junior (40-50 Flex): Ages 7-12
- Intermediate (55-65 Flex): Ages 11-14
- Senior (70-87+ Flex): Ages 14+
2. Kick Point
Low Kick: The stick bends near the bottom. Best for quick snap shots and plays in tight near the crease (e.g., Bauer Vapor, CCM Ribcor).
Mid Kick: The stick bends in the middle. Best for loading up heavy wrist shots and slap shots (e.g., Bauer Supreme, CCM Tacks).
3. The Curve
The P92 / P29 / W03 is the industry standard—perfect for learning all shots. The P28 is popular with elite shooters for toe drags, but it is less forgiving.
