Buyer's Guide: Choosing Your Stick

Finding the right stick is about three variables: Flex, Kick Point, and Curve. Here is how to pick.

1. Flex (Stiffness)

A general rule of thumb is to pick a flex that is half your body weight. If you weigh 150 lbs, try a 75 or 77 flex.

  • Youth (20-40 Flex): Ages 4-8
  • Junior (40-50 Flex): Ages 7-12
  • Intermediate (55-65 Flex): Ages 11-14
  • Senior (70-87+ Flex): Ages 14+

2. Kick Point

Low Kick: The stick bends near the bottom. Best for quick snap shots and plays in tight near the crease (e.g., Bauer Vapor, CCM Ribcor).

Mid Kick: The stick bends in the middle. Best for loading up heavy wrist shots and slap shots (e.g., Bauer Supreme, CCM Tacks).

3. The Curve

The P92 / P29 / W03 is the industry standard—perfect for learning all shots. The P28 is popular with elite shooters for toe drags, but it is less forgiving.

Pro Tip: If you cut a stick shorter, it gets stiffer. Cutting 2 inches off a 75 Flex stick will make it feel like an 85 Flex.

Common Questions

Is there a warranty?
Yes. Most composite sticks come with a manufacturer's 30-Day Warranty from the date of purchase. You must have your receipt (we email this to you) and the serial number sticker must still be on the stick.
Grip vs. Non-Grip?
95% of players today use "Grip" sticks, which have a tacky texture on the shaft to prevent hands from slipping. Non-grip (smooth) sticks are rare now but available in some pro-stock models.
Left or Right Handed?
In hockey, your dominant hand usually goes on Top. If you are Right-Handed in life, you likely shoot Left (Left hand low, Right hand on top knob). But do whatever feels natural.
