Buyer's Guide: Basecamp Essentials

A tent is just the beginning. These accessories turn a shelter into a home.

1. Wood Burning Stoves

Essential for cold-weather camping.
Setup: Place the stove on a fireproof mat. Run the chimney pipe straight up through the stove jack.
Fuel: Use dry hardwoods. Never burn trash or treated lumber, as it creates toxic fumes.

2. Heavy Duty Tarps

Don't rely on cheap blue tarps. Our Poly Tarps are 16-mil thick (commercial grade).
Under the Tent: Protects your floor from sharp rocks and moisture.
Over the Tent: Acts as a rain fly to shed heavy snow and rain, doubling the life of your canvas.

3. Hammocks

For the solo adventurer.
The advantage: You don't need flat ground. You just need two trees. It keeps you off the cold, wet earth and packs down smaller than a sleeping bag.

Log Carriers: Stop carrying firewood in your arms and getting sap on your jacket. A canvas log carrier allows you to haul huge loads of wood with one hand effortlessly.

Common Questions

Do I need a spark arrestor?
YES. A spark arrestor is a mesh cap that goes on top of your stove pipe. It prevents hot embers from flying out and landing on your tent roof (burning a hole) or starting a forest fire.
Can I wash my hammock?
Yes. Remove the carabiners and hand wash in a bucket with mild detergent. Hang dry. Do not put it in a dryer, as heat can damage the nylon fibers.
