Buyer's Guide: Pants vs. Girdles
There are two ways to protect your lower body. Neither is "better," it is purely personal preference.
1. Traditional Hockey Pants
The Classic Look. These are one-piece units. They fit loose in the legs and offer a lot of volume.
Pros: Easy to put on, classic ventilation, feels familiar.
Cons: Can feel bulky or shift around during skating.
2. Girdle + Shell
The Modern Fit. You wear a Girdle (tight, compression-fit pads) closest to your body, and then pull a lightweight nylon Shell over it.
Pros: Pads stay exactly where they need to be (don't twist). More anatomical/agile feel. You can change your team color just by buying a new shell ($40) instead of new pants ($150+).
3. Sizing (Waist)
Hockey pants are sized by waist circumference, similar to jeans.
- Youth (S-L): Waist 20" - 26"
- Junior (S-L): Waist 24" - 30"
- Senior (S-XL): Waist 30" - 40"+
