Buyer's Guide: Understanding Wedge Lofts

Most iron sets stop at the Pitching Wedge (approx 45°). To cover the short game, you need to fill the gaps.

1. Gap Wedge (50°-52°)

This fills the "Gap" between your Pitching Wedge and Sand Wedge. It is essential for full shots from 100 yards out.

2. Sand Wedge (54°-56°)

The workhorse. Designed with a heavy sole (bounce) to glide through sand and thick rough without digging. Every golfer needs one.

3. Lob Wedge (58°-60°)

The surgeon's tool. High loft allows you to hit the ball high and stop it instantly. Perfect for hitting over bunkers or tight pins.

The 4-Degree Rule: For perfect gapping, try to keep 4 degrees between your wedges. (e.g., PW 46°, GW 50°, SW 54°, LW 58°).

Common Questions

What is "Bounce"?
Bounce is the angle of the sole. High Bounce (10°+) is better for soft sand and fluffy grass (prevents digging). Low Bounce (<8°) is better for firm turf and tight lies.
Are milled faces better?
Yes. "Milled" means the grooves are cut with laser precision to maximize friction. This generates more backspin, helping your ball stop faster on the green.
