Buyer's Guide: Modern Tackle

Fishing technology has changed. If you are still using monofilament and lead weights, you are missing fish.

1. The Tungsten Advantage

We feature Reaction Tackle Tungsten Weights.
Sensitivity: Tungsten is much denser than lead. When you drag it along the bottom, you can feel the difference between sand, rock, and mud.
Profile: Because it is dense, the weight is physically smaller than a lead weight of the same mass. This means fewer snags in weeds.

2. Braided Line

Zero Stretch: When a fish bites, you feel it instantly. This allows for lightning-fast hooksets.
Strength: 30lb braid has the same diameter as 8lb mono. You can spool way more line on your reel and pull fish out of the heaviest cover.

Knot Tip: Braided line is slippery. Do not use a standard Fisherman's Knot. Use a Palomar Knot to ensure your lure never slips off the line.

Common Questions

Does braid float or sink?
Standard braided line floats. This makes it excellent for topwater frogs and lures. If you need it to sink (for crankbaits), use a Fluorocarbon leader.
Is Tungsten toxic?
No! That is the other benefit. Tungsten is non-toxic and environmentally friendly, unlike lead, which is banned in some fisheries for harming waterfowl.
