Sizing Guide: Intermediate vs. Adult

Once a player hits age 13 or 14, they enter the "Intermediate" zone. Choosing the right size is crucial for mobility.

1. Intermediate (Ages 12-15)

This is the "Tweener" size. It is perfect for the freshman high schooler or elite travel ball player who is too tall for youth gear but too skinny for full Adult gear.
Typical Specs: Chest 15"-16" | Legs 15"-16".

2. Adult (Ages 15+)

This is full regulation size. If the player is 5'8" or taller, they likely need Adult gear. The chest protector is longer to cover the ribs, and the leg guards are longer to cover the upper knee.
Typical Specs: Chest 16.5"-17"+ | Legs 16.5"-17"+.

The NOCSAE Rule: High School (NFHS) rules mandate that all chest protectors must be NOCSAE certified to protect against Commotio Cordis. Every chest protector in this collection carries the NOCSAE stamp.

Common Questions

What is the difference between Intermediate and Adult?
It is purely size. The quality of materials (impact foam, plastic shell) is usually identical. Do not force a smaller player into Adult gear "to grow into"—it will restrict their throwing motion and leave gaps in protection.
Do I need Knee Savers?
For Adult catchers, Knee Savers are a personal preference. Many pros do not use them because they add weight, but if you have knee pain or catch multiple games a day, they can significantly reduce strain.
Which brand is best for High School?
All-Star (System7) is the most popular brand in college baseball for a reason. Easton and Mizuno also make excellent NFHS-compliant gear.
