Parent's Guide: Buying Youth Gloves
For young players, batting gloves are about two things: Grip (to stop the bat from stinging or flying out of their hands) and Comfort (preventing blisters).
1. Sizing Cheat Sheet
Measure from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger.
- Youth Small (6.25" - 6.5"): Typical Ages 5-7.
- Youth Medium (6.5" - 6.75"): Typical Ages 7-9.
- Youth Large (6.75" - 7.0"): Typical Ages 9-12.
2. "Cool Factor" Matters
It sounds silly, but confidence is key in youth baseball. If a kid loves the way their gloves look (like the flashy Jax or neon Franklin styles), they walk up to the plate with more swag. We stock the best colors for exactly this reason.
Pro Tip: Buy two pairs. Youth players are notorious for losing one glove in the dugout. Having a backup pair in the bag saves the day during a tournament.
Parent FAQs
Does my 6-year-old really need batting gloves?
For Tee Ball? Not strictly necessary. But for Coach Pitch? Yes. Bat vibration (sting) scares kids away from swinging hard. Gloves dampen that vibration and help them grip the bat confidently.
What is the difference between Youth and Adult?
It is purely the width of the palm and length of the fingers. A Youth Large and an Adult Small might seem similar, but the Adult glove will have wider finger stalls which will feel "floppy" on a kid's hand. Stick to Youth sizes until they are 13+.
Are these machine washable?
We recommend hand-washing with mild soap and air drying. Machine washing can dry out the leather palm, making it slick and ruining the grip.
