How to Choose the Right Catcher's Mitt
A catcher's mitt is the most technical glove on the field. The wrong size leads to dropped balls and thumb injuries. Here is how to pick the right mitt for your season.
1. Baseball vs. Softball Patterns
Never cross sports. Baseball mitts have a smaller pocket for a 9-inch ball. Fastpitch softball mitts have a deeper, wider pocket to accommodate an 11 or 12-inch ball. Using a baseball mitt for softball will result in "pop-outs" because the pocket isn't deep enough.
2. Sizing by Age (Circumference)
- Youth (Ages 7-10): Look for 31.5" or smaller. Control is more important than size.
- Transition (Ages 11-13): 32" to 32.5". This is the hardest age to buy for—we highly recommend renting to ensure the glove isn't too heavy.
- High School/Adult: 33" is standard. 34" is often used for knuckleball pitchers or maximum blocking area.

No. We are a membership platform, not a financing company. You are paying for access to use the gear. You can return it, swap it for a different size, or switch sports at any time. If you fall in love with the mitt, there are options to keep it, but our focus is on flexibility.
Why should I rent a catcher's mitt?
Catcher's mitts are stiff and expensive. If you buy a stiff mitt and your player can't squeeze it, you're out $200+. Renting allows you to get a high-quality mitt (often pre-broken in or easier to break in) without the upfront risk.
