Buyer's Guide: Sizing & Fit

Correct sizing is critical for heart and spine protection. Do not guess.

1. How to Measure

Wrap a tape measure around the chest, just below the armpits. Keep the tape parallel to the floor.

  • Youth (Small/Med/Large): Chest 22" - 28"
  • Junior (Small/Med/Large): Chest 26" - 34"
  • Senior (Small - XL): Chest 34" - 46"+

2. The "Safety Gap"

The most important check happens when you put them on. The Bicep Guard of the shoulder pad should meet the Cuff of your elbow pad. If there is a gap of exposed skin, the pads are too small (or your elbow pads are too short).

3. Low Profile vs. Traditional

Low Profile (Vapor/Jetspeed): Sits closer to the body. Lighter weight. Best for forwards who rely on speed.
Traditional (Supreme/Tacks): Slightly bulkier but offers maximum coverage. Best for defensemen who block shots.

Safety Note: Modern pads feature a "Floating Sternum" guard. This hard plastic shield protects the heart from puck impact while allowing the rest of the pad to flex.

Common Questions

Can I wash shoulder pads?
Yes. Most shoulder pads can be machine washed on a gentle cycle (cold water) and air-dried. Do NOT put them in the dryer, as the heat will warp the plastic caps.
Do I need to wear a shirt underneath?
We highly recommend a moisture-wicking Base Layer. It prevents the pads from chafing your skin and keeps the bacteria (smell) out of the foam padding.
