Buyer's Guide: Understanding Lumens

Bike lights serve two purposes: "To See" the road, and "To Be Seen" by cars. The brightness is measured in Lumens.

1. Headlights (Front)

400 - 800 Lumens: Best for city riding with streetlights. Bright enough to spot potholes, but mainly designed to alert drivers.
1000+ Lumens: Essential for unlit paths or trails. This casts a beam far enough ahead to ride at speed safely in total darkness.

2. Tail Lights (Rear)

You don't need high lumens here; you need Pattern. MagicShine lights feature specific flash patterns that are scientifically proven to catch a driver's peripheral vision faster than a solid light.

3. Mounting

Our lights use the Garmin Quarter-Turn Mount system or flexible rubber straps. This allows you to pop the light off in 2 seconds when you park, so it doesn't get stolen.

Daytime Running: 80% of cycling accidents happen during the day. We recommend running your lights on "Daytime Flash" mode on every single ride. It reduces accident risk by up to 19%.

Common Questions

How long does the battery last?
It depends on the mode. On "High" (max brightness), most lights last 1.5 - 2 hours. On "Flash" mode, they can last 10+ hours. MagicShine lights are USB-C rechargeable.
Can I use this as a flashlight?
Yes! Since the mount is quick-release, many customers use their high-lumen bike light as a camping flashlight or emergency torch.
