Try Before You Buy Golf Clubs – Member FAQs

How does the Gear Trybe Golf Club testing program work?
Our "Trybe It" program is an exclusive benefit for members. You select premium drivers, irons, or wedges, pay a discounted upfront fee plus a low monthly access fee, and test them on your actual course. It’s designed for golfers who know that hitting into a simulator net isn't the same as playing 18 holes.
Is there a large upfront cost to demo clubs?
No. Unlike standard retailers that place a hold on your card for the full $600+ value of a driver, Gear Trybe members only pay a small upfront fee to start. You simply pay for access as long as you keep the club.
Are these golf clubs USGA conforming?
Yes. All golf clubs in our Try Before You Buy collection are authentic, top-tier models from major brands (like Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade) and are fully USGA conforming for tournament play and handicap posting.
Can I switch clubs if the shaft or loft isn't right?
Absolutely. Finding the right shaft flex and loft combination is exactly why we built this program. If you find your ball flight is too high or too low, simply return the club and Trybe a different spec. You are never stuck with a club that doesn't fit your swing.
How do I know which shaft flex to choose?
General guidance suggests: Senior flex for swing speeds under 85mph, Regular for 85-95mph, and Stiff for 95-105mph. However, tempo plays a huge role. Our program lets you test a Stiff vs. Regular on the range to see which one gives you the tightest dispersion.
Is "Trybe It" better than a 30-minute store fitting?
Store fittings rely on simulators that can sometimes misread spin rates. "Trybe It" lets you see the actual ball flight in wind, rough, and fairway conditions. There is no substitute for testing golf clubs in the real world environment where you actually play.
What happens if I decide to keep the club?
If the club stays in your bag, you're already paying for it! Your upfront and monthly payments apply toward the final purchase price. Once you hit the retail value, payments stop and you own the club.

Golf Club Buying Guide: The "Try Before You Buy" Advantage

Your driver and irons are the most expensive tools in your bag. Buying them off the rack based on a few swings into a net is a gamble. The Gear Trybe testing program removes the risk by letting you experience the club's feel, sound, and forgiveness on your home course.

Key Specs to Test on the Course

  • Shaft Flex & Weight: The engine of the club. Test if a lighter shaft gives you more speed, or a heavier shaft gives you more control.
  • Loft Adjustability: Most modern drivers are adjustable. Use your trial period to tinker with the hosel settings to optimize your launch angle.
  • Turf Interaction: You can't test how an iron creates divots on a plastic mat. You need to feel the bounce on real grass.
  • Sound & Feel: Confidence comes from sound. Ensure you love the acoustics of the driver head outdoors, not just in a loud store.

Why Members Prefer the "Trybe It" Access Model

  • No Buyer's Remorse: Never regret a $600 purchase again. If it doesn't work, send it back.
  • Season-Long Updates: Play the newest tech every season without paying full retail every year.
  • Course Management: See how the club performs under pressure on the 18th tee, not just when you are fresh on the range.

Pro Tip: When testing a new driver, take it to the range alongside your current gamer. Hit 5 balls with each, alternating, to get a true "strokes gained" comparison.
